Claire Allen-Powell (Soprano)

Claire was born in Belfast. As a child, she won the vocal championship at Belfast Music Festival and the Girls’ Vocal Solo at Llangollen Eisteddfod. After obtaining a B.Ed with Music and Drama she furthered her singing studies at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She went on to live in America and continued her singing lessons with Janice Harsanyi at Florida State University. She continued as a concert, operatic and oratorio singer and performed with several orchestras in the United States. Among her performances were the Beethoven 9th Symphony, the Finsi ‘Dies Natalis’ and many of the standard oratorios. She was also soloist for Sir David and Jonathan Wilcox at the Green Lake Festival of Music in Wisconsin where she performed the Poulenc Gloria and a solo recital. She has accompanied many choirs, as soloist, throughout Europe and in America.

While living in South Wales, Claire has taken major roles on the operatic stage in The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute, Dido and Aeneas, Nabucco and Die Fledermaus. Last year she performed a programme of music by Welsh composer Grace Williams in Rome. She will be appearing in further Christmas concerts in Neath and Kidwelly.
